January 17th 2010

As you know, we are now in Dodoma. We have had a very kind welcome and we are beginning to envisage life here on a longer term basis. Our house is not yet ready so we are staying in a house which belongs to a couple who are out of the country presently.

We have had our first meeting with the Dean and we now know what is expected of us for next semester. I am to teach Theology of Acts, Christian Worldview and Anglican Ecclesiology as well as supervising students in the third year who are writing up their dissertations. Sharon has decided that she will not teach in this semester but put her energies into getting the house sorted and Sam settled in school. She will begin teaching at the beginning of the next academic year when, hopefully, the new MA will be approved. I have been ‘appointed’ co-ordinator of the MA course which is both exciting and a little daunting.

Sam is thriving though he often talks about Oxford. We have been delighted with the way he has coped with things. He travelled very well from the UK and has put up with living in someone else’s house and the thought of more travel and yet another different bed (this time at the language school campsite). He is really enjoying the wildlife - he was wakened this week by a woodpecker! Thank you for all your prayers for him. Do continue to pray for him.

We leave for language school in Iringa (seven hours away) tomorrow (Jan. 18th). We will be there for five weeks before returning to the University to get on with the job of preparing lectures and seminars.

We very value all your encouragement and prayer.
Sharon has had lots of irritation with mosquitos and bugs so please do pray that that would ease. Sam has done well – continue to pray that he settles and stays healthy. Pray too for safe travels and a productive time at language school.

We have yet to get internet access sorted. We did buy a mobile modem (which we have now sold to someone else) as I couldn’t get it working with the Mac. I’ll take a swing at this again when we return in five weeks.

You can call and text us on: +255 (0)688 227 043

Kind regards,

Robert, Sharon & Sam.
