KEST was started in 1989 by a group of indigenous evangelical Christian leaders who had a vision for Christian leadership development for the Church in Uganda. Their vision was grounded in the prevailing situation of a Church that was growing very fast, but without adequate training programmes and facilities to equip leaders. That vision was translated into a mission which KEST exists to fulfill. KEST is a unique institution in Uganda. It is still the only theological school that can claim:
It offers courses in Pastoral Ministry, Christian Education, Christian Leadership, Communication Arts, Counselling, Development Studies and Missions. KEST’s programme is designed for mature Christians seeking skills, knowledge, and experience that will enhance their capacity for effective leadership and service. Crosslinks’ initial involvement with KEST was through Associate mission partner, Mark Meynell who worked there for five years. Since 2005 the Principal has been Solomon Nkesiga and Crosslinks mission partner, Steve Smith has been working at KEST part-time since 2007. The financial position of the college is a precarious one and many of the students who come to study at the college (from within Uganda and other East African countries) struggle to pay their fees. This makes meeting the running costs of the college (including paying staff salaries) difficult. |
