Ben Shikwati (George Whitfield College (GWC), South Africa Rev. Ben Shikwati is a gospel hearted scholar. He is looking for partners to enable his continued PhD studies at GWC in Cape Town. Ben previously worked at the African Institute for Contemporary Mission and Research (AICMAR) in Butere, Kenya. He hopes to return to this work after his studies. Alongside studying at GWC Ben mentors and tutors students. Born in 1970, Ben is an outstanding biblical scholar with a Masters degree from Oak Hill Theological College and more than 10 years experience in gospel ministry. He is a great role model particularly for black African undergraduates at GWC. Ben’s own studies will better equip him to train others for lifelong gospel ministry. The Project Ben is studying for a PhD at George Whitefield College in Cape Town. He commenced his studies in 2008, and plans to complete them in 2011. His PhD proposal is to research pastoral care of the bereaved in light of the New Testament hope of resurrection. This is an important subject anywhere, but particularly relevant in HIV affected Sub-Saharan Africa where the average age of death is 47. Armed with his PhD Ben hopes to return to his ministry in Kenya. While at GWC, Ben acts as a personal tutor to many students. He helps them with their studies and in personal development. AICMAR’s vision is to meet a key challenge facing the African church - to equip Christian leaders and Bible teachers in the context of a rapidly growing church. To address this challenge, AICMAR nurtures scholarship deeply rooted in the Bible while engaging with contemporary issues facing African evangelicals. Crosslinks Mission Partner Doug Johnson is director of AICMAR. AICMAR aims to develop African scholars who will serve Gospel ministry. It provides both library resources and qualified supervisors to encourage and assist with postgraduate evangelical study. For this work to flourish individuals like Ben must be appropriately trained to train others at the Institute. |
