Current Opportunities Teaching English in Thailand A secondary school in rural Thailand urgently needs Christian English teachers who can serve for 2 months - a year. Pupils are largely from the Karen people group, who are part of refugee communities living in Thailand. As well as teaching English there are masses of opportunities to share the gospel with students who don't yet know Jesus, and to disciple those who do. Volunteers can be involved in running / helping with CUs, Bible studies and one-to-one discipleship as well as all the wider school activities e.g. sports / music / drama. Volunteers will be hosted and supported by Christ Church Bangkok. Please contact the Smile Co-ordinator if you're interested in finding out more! With the demand for places on our gap year teams increasing, the supply of leaders for these teams also needs to increase. In contrast to some organisations, our gap year teams are led by older Christians (often in their mid or late 20s) who have some experience of leadership and Bible teaching. Whilst this helps practically with running the placements, the focus for the leaders is on the discipling of the team members. Our hope and prayer is that each Smiler will return to the UK rooted and built up in Christ, primarily by having been taught God’s Word (and having opportunities to teach it) several times each week within the team context. We are currently looking for up to 8 team leaders for the Smile gap teams in 2011. We currently have three teams confirmed for 2011, and hope to be able to add a fourth opportunity later this year. We will therefore need four female leaders, and four male leaders. The time frame we are working within, is that it would be ideal to have found and appointed leaders before March. Gap year teams 2011 Church / CU based Summer Teams At Crosslinks we’re all about helping churches and individuals in the UK to partner in cross-cultural mission. Sometimes this means turning up to your Church prayer meeting to pray for your cross-cultural mission partners. Sometimes this means using your money to help support them financially. And sometimes this might mean a group from your church going overseas to visit them, to encourage them, and to work alongside them for a while. Through the Smile programme we can help you do this! If you want to arrange a group trip from your church to visit your mission partner, and to get alongside them in their work, please contact the Smile co-ordinator. As with any Smile mission opportunity, the emphases would still be serving, evangelism and discipleship. Groups are required to provide their own team leaders for summer teams. Overseas ApprenticeshipsAre you considering serving in cross-cultural gospel ministry longer term? Do you want to test the water before committing to three years or more? Then why not consider an overseas church based ministry apprenticeship? We can facilitate placements of volunteers for either one or two years in churches in various places around the world. Whether in Europe, Africa or Asia there are churches that would welcome your help and service. As with a UK based apprenticeship any placement would involve elements of practical work e.g. moving chairs, setting up for groups etc; ministry opportunities e.g. leading Bible studies amongst students or running a youth group; and ministry training – either as part of a group on a course, or through individual discipling and mentoring. If this is something you’re considering, please contact the Smile Co-ordinator to discuss your plans and options. Summer team to Lebanon - July 2010Would you be interested in joining a 2 week Summer Team to Lebanon? We are looking for volunteers of any age (this team placement is joint with Crosslinks NEXT programme – see www.crosslinks.org/next for more details) to work amongst children at a holiday club teaching them about Jesus. Huge opportunities for creative activities – craft, sports and games. Also possible visits to serve in special needs centres and / or prison visiting. 16th to 31st July (exact dates tbc). We are looking for both a male and female team leader, and up to 8 team members. Please contact us for further information. InterAction France If you would like to serve Jesus and fancy trying out your French at the same time, then InterAction France is a great place to start. Each August we run 9-day holiday camps in a beautiful hill-top Chateau overlooking the Seine in Normandy. The camps host around 40-50 young people from Britain, France, Belgium and beyond as well as a couple of dozen leaders and a dozen or so trainee leaders, called Animefs (ANIMateurs En Formation). It's a wonderful opportunity to explain the Gospel to young people from these different countries, and to engage in cross-cultural ministry. Everything we do is done bilingually, with alternate translation (except for single language Bible Studies) - it's a wonderful opportunity for the young people to practice their language skills and to engage with another culture. It also provides an excellent first opportunity for adults to experience French-speaking gospel ministry and to understand a little more about the French Christian scene. Many of our Animefs go on to spend a year abroad as part of their degree, and the contacts and experience of camp are a great first step. We are always on the lookout for committed Animefs, Cooks and Leaders. If you would be interested in serving in this way, please contact the Smile co-ordinator for details in the first instance. Equally, if you can think of young people who might enjoy the camp, do pass on details of our website: http://www.interaction-france.org
